A Wonderful Return for Thornham’s Soup and Sandwich Lunch

What a fantastic day at Thornham Village Hall! The atmosphere was buzzing as friends and neighbours came together once again for the first of this 12th Soup and Sandwich Lunch season — a wonderful community initiative organised by local volunteer Carolyn Barrett and her fantastic team.

The excitement of being back was clear to see, with comments like, “It’s great to see you all again!” and “We’ve looked forward to this day so much!” echoing around the hall. The raffle and bric-a-brac stall raised an impressive £120 for Tapping House, and the ever-popular Bagladies even took early orders for Christmas cakes and puddings — much earlier than usual!

Next month’s lunch will have a Halloween theme, and guests have been invited to dress up if they wish. Orders will also be taken for the special Christmas lunch, kindly provided once again by Mark Goode at The Orange Tree.

It was lovely to see so many familiar faces joining us too, including Lorcan Parnell from Careline Community Service / Lily / Care &Repair, who went round the tables offering friendly advice and support.

“Each lunch includes a cheerful birthday celebration — we sing Happy Birthday to anyone celebrating that day, week or month, complete with plenty of clapping. This month was no exception!“

With the lunches on November 4th and December 9th already fully booked, it’s clear how valued this event is within the community. Our sincere thanks to Carolyn and her dedicated team of volunteers for their continued hard work in making these gatherings such a cherished tradition.
