Did you know about the New Sports Pavilion?

Did you know that the New Sports Pavilion is being designed as a sustainable, inclusive hub for the whole community? Building on the carbon-neutral credentials of Thornham Village Hall, the Pavilion uses pre-panelled walls with high-quality insulation to reduce carbon emissions, limit lorry deliveries, and minimise environmental impact. Underfloor heating, rainwater collection for toilets, and the reuse of existing facilities will further reduce energy use, and planned solar panels and battery storage should bring the building close to net zero.

The Pavilion will feature five changing rooms, supporting mixed teams, and is being fitted out to ensure access for all athletes—regardless of age, sex, or ability—providing a warm, safe, and comfortable space for everyone. It will also host fitness classes, indoor bowls, cricket teas, post-game refreshments, and displays from the Thornham History Society, combining sport, social activity, and heritage under one roof.

Environmental care has been at the heart of the project. The Pavilion was carefully sited to minimise disruption, three affected trees were relocated, and native English species will be planted around the building once it is complete.

Funds being raised now will help fit out this eco-friendly space, supporting community cohesion and reducing loneliness. You can be part of bringing this sustainable, inclusive hub to life—please consider supporting the Pavilion fit-out through our crowdfunder: Fit-Out of Thornham’s New Sports Pavilion.

Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project takes shape, bringing sport, culture, and community together for generations to come.
