Thornham Cricket Celebration

A Brilliant Day and Evening for All

What a day in Thornham! On Saturday, the village came together for a special cricket celebration match against Fakenham CC followed by a BBQ that brought the community out in force. With over 100 people attending, the event was a wonderful blend of sport, music, food, and fundraising — the perfect way to celebrate summer and over 300 years of cricket in Thornham.

The afternoon began with a great game of cricket along with plenty of junior players taking to the field, showcasing their skills and enthusiasm for the game. The village turned up in great numbers to support them, creating a lively atmosphere around the Thornham Oval. The BBQ proved hugely popular, the bar was kept frantic, and in true Thornham spirit, leftover food was handed out free to the young cricketers at the end of play.

As the sun went down, the celebrations continued inside the hall. Musician Bill Wyett delighted the crowd with a nostalgic set of tunes from the 1960s and 70s, filling the hall with singing and dancing. The last of the beer and the final Pimm’s of the season were left as an honesty bar for Bill’s fan club, rounding off the evening.

Most importantly, the event raised around £1,500 towards the New Sports Pavilion (still doing a final count)— a fantastic achievement that highlights the generosity and support of the Thornham community.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who came along, played, cooked, poured, sang, danced, and donated. It was a really top day and evening — a brilliant way to come together, celebrate Thornham’s cricketing heritage, and raise vital funds for the future.
