Thornham Cricket Club Celebrates History with Special Match, BBQ & Live Music

Thornham Cricket Club will be bringing history to life on Saturday 6 September with a special Celebration Match and BBQ, marking the village’s long-standing cricketing traditions.

The event commemorates the famous “Single vs Married” Thornham Parish match of 1788, one of the earliest recorded fixtures in the village. This year, Thornham will welcome Fakenham CC for a friendly encounter that blends local rivalry with community spirit.

Following the match, spectators will be treated to one of the club’s much-loved BBQs, alongside live music from Bill Wyett, ensuring the festivities continue well into the evening.

Fundraising for the Future

While the day is rooted in tradition, it also looks firmly to the future. Proceeds from the BBQ will support the fit-out of Thornham’s New Sports Pavilion – a facility designed not only for cricket and tennis but as a multi-purpose community hub.

The pavilion will include five changing rooms, a disabled facility, and a flexible space for fitness classes, indoor bowls, coffee mornings and even Thornham History Society displays. Organisers say it will be “a warm, safe and fully accessible space” aimed at bringing the village together and reducing loneliness.
